They scream "climate crisis" yet...

How many trees need to be killed before we kneel and pray for our leaders?

So I got a bug up my butt today after getting the mail.

In the last two days, I have received six political ads in the mail, the smallest being 11" x 6" and the largest being 11" x 8.5" from all sides of the political aisle.

Now, if I remember correctly, wasn’t there this huge push for climate crisis, global warming etc, not too long ago? I mean, the way they were going at it, you would have thought we were about to walk into end-times crisis mode.

Yet in just two days, I received all that paper. (not to mention the ink used)

Can we call it as it is — Political Hypocrisy

I live in a very, very small town, and I did some math. Our population is 410 as of the 2024 census. (yes, like I said, very small.)

Let’s make a conservative estimate that 1/4 of those as actual households that receive mail. I actually know it’s more, but we’re being conservative here to prove a point. That leaves me with 102.5 houses that receive mail.

If those 102.5 houses receive an average of 3 political ads a day. That equals 307.5 pieces of paper a day.

In two days, that equals 615.

In three days, that equals 922.5.

In four days, that equals 1,230.

In thirty days, that equals 9,225.

Remember, this is just a conservative estimate of 102.5 households in a town of 410 people, not counting the days I can get up to seven or eight political ads in my mailbox since before November of last year.

Where is this climate crisis they all scream about?

I love how it goes out the window when they want the resources. Did you know a standard pine tree makes about 10,000 sheets of paper? How many pine trees are sacrificed when politicians have access to television and social media during election time?

You know where my ads go? The burn bin.

Perfect for starting a late-night fire on a cool summer night. Other people just toss in the garbage, and it goes to the landfill, and others may recycle the ads.

Either way, needless trees are killed, smoke in the air, piles of ink-laden paper rotting, resources used, planet damaged — hypocrisy at its finest.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Timothy 2:1–2

I get frustrated by things I cannot control and the waste I see happen during political years.

As hard as it can be at times, especially if it is not your party in office, pray for our leaders.

God hears our prayers.

Could you imagine what would happen if Christians collectively just kneeled together and prayed for our leaders and this country?

The mountains He could move, the hearts He could change?
